What is the Difference between Male and Female Skin

Jul 02, 2021

Men's skin has many attributes that allow it to age differently than women's skin. First, men's skin is 25% thicker due to higher collagen content. Second, the oil glands in men are more active, allowing for greater innate moisturization over the adult years. The aging process is more gradual from a young age in men, whereas women's skin maintains thickness and moisture content consistently until menopause, when decreasing estrogen levels cause dramatic changes.

So, in the choice of skin care products, women's products pay more attention to moisturizing, to make up for their less sebum secretion problem. Since women are more likely to develop adult acne due to hormonal changes, many women's products often address the problem by including exfoliating, calming and anti-acne ingredients in their formulations. For men, it's recommended that use products containing retinol earlier than for women, as their collagen levels gradually decline from a young age.
